Our Work
We imagine, innovate, illuminate
We innovate new cutting-edge technologies and illuminate new insights through collaborative, interdisciplinary research that advances knowledge and transforms science.
Inflammation and the dysregulation of immune cells are implicated in the vast majority of human diseases. Our overarching goal is to characterize and learn to control tissue-level interactions with the immune system.
We use an interdisciplinary approach at the intersection of engineering, chemistry and biology to develop technologies that will transform our understanding of tissue-scale biology, and in turn, elucidate the design rules that underpin the trajectory of inflammation in living human tissues. Technologies under development will enable new measurements within fully engineered tissue models where spatiotemporal characterization and actuation of molecular species and molecular processes will reveal new insights into inflammatory pathways.
Our team collaborates extensively with our University partners in Illinois — University of Chicago, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University — to enable high-risk, high-reward trailblazing research. We also partner with the other institutes across the CZ Biohub Network as well as with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to accelerate progress.
Technology platforms
We use cutting-edge tools at scale
To understand inflammation, we employ state-of-the-art technologies at scale to interrogate the proteome and metabolome combined with artificial intelligence/machine learning and advanced tissue models.
